As an MSc in Food Technology pass out, you can clear the NET conducted by either UGC or CSIR to become an assistant professor in Indian universities and colleges. The UGC NET exam only tests eligibility for teaching positions in such disciplines as food technology. Some states conduct their own levels of exams, such as SET (State Eligibility Test), whereby you can apply depending on the state you choose to work in. Clearing these exams makes you eligible to apply for assistant professor positions in all the institutions of India. Furthermore, research experience also adds to your eligibility.

Alternatively, if you're applying for teaching positions in specific universities, some may conduct their own entrance exams. A Ph.D. degree can also make you eligible without clearing NET in some cases, depending on the university or college's criteria.
