It will be helpful if you could provide more information about the course. As in, which college are you asking about? Is it the syllabus of the course that you're asking about or entrance exam's syllabus?

55% in MAT is a low score. You won't be getting top B-Schools of India. If you don't have prior gap in studies than you can definitely go for a one year gap. A good preparation for 1 year will help you to score good kn entrance exams. A good performance in What/PI and entrance exam will help you to get into top tier MBA institutes.
