According to a few students, there is no life in college, as you feel totally alienated. Lots of restrictions and rules along with academic downfalls all add up to depression. Unless you find your troops it's really hard to survive here. You will not be allowed to go out or out of your hostel post 9 pm. Heavy academic schedules, classes, and assignments add a lot of pressure. If you are an above-average student like me (80 - 90%) in schooling you will find backlogs quite common. Your 90 marks will suddenly turn out to be 45 which brings a lot of happiness to your face. But ultimately your placement is guaranteed. If you are a social person with a good academic background, then you can surely bear the pain. I would rather prefer other colleges which compete with VIT Chennai on the same level.

Talking about the accommodation outside, you have plenty number of flats and PGs within a radius of 2 km. You would definitely require a two wheeler for your transportation unless you stay in TATA apartments which is a building next to the campus. Some other PGs where students commonly live are Sai Nila, Vinayaka PGs, TATA, SBIOS, etc.

Approximately, the cost for PGs:

NON AC - 3 BEDDED - 9000 per month including three meals a day. 

AC - 3 BEDDED - 12000 - 14000 plus AC charges extra (meals included).

I would suggest you to take an apartment for rent rather than PGs along with your friends. Staying outside is the best option, as you will have total freedom.

CUSAT is an autonomous university owned by the state government. CUSAT has been ranked 37 among the top Universities in India and 63 in the Overall category by NIRF 2023. QS World Asia University ranking (Southern) 2023 has also awarded a rank of 145 to CUSAT. As per the latest CUSAT placement drive of 2023, the highest and average package offered stood at INR 25 LPA and INR 4.9 LPA, respectively. Vellore Institute of Technology is a private deemed to be university. VIT Vellore is ranked 22 under the QS Southern Asia World University category by QS World University Rankings 2023. NIRF 2023 has also awarded a rank of 8 to Vellore Institute of Technology in the top Universities in India category. As per the latest placement report, 904 recruiters participated in the placement drive and presented 14,345 job offers to the students till April. The highest and average package offered during VIT Vellore placements 2023 stood at INR 1.02 crore per annum and INR 9.23 LPA, respectively.
