BTech programme at Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai is often preferred over newer IITs if your main goal is chemical research. The campus has legendary industry roots and specialised chemical equipment that newer institutes lack. However, IITs might offer better brand value for non-chemical fields like software roles.

Some scholars believe that IIT is more difficult than Harvard University due to high cut-offs and lower acceptance rates. Out of 1.3 million students 16-17 thousand get selected in JEE Mains making the acceptance rate 1.23%, whereas the Harvard University acceptance rate is around 3-4%. The application procedure and eligibility criteria are certainly different for both universities. But on the basis of the acceptance rate, we can say that IIT is difficult. Absolutely yes. Every year, BTech graduates from Mysore colleges successfully clear GATE and secure admissions in top institutions like IITs, NITs, and VTU itself for M.Tech programmes.
Apart from M.Tech admissions, a good GATE score also opens the door to PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) jobs in organisations like BHEL, NTPC, ONGC, BSNL, and KPTCL.

No, IITs rely strictly on JEE Mains and JEE Advanced scores for admission. SAT scores could be considered for NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) but not for domestic candidates. Also, JEE scores open doors to more colleges other than IITs, which gives candidates a higher opportunity to pursue the degree of their liking.
