Leading private engineering colleges of India like BITS Pilani, IIIT Hyderabad, VIT Vellore and Manipal Institute of Technology competes against the top IITs and NITs in placements as well as infrastructure but are usually costly. IITs continue to be the gold standard for reputation.

While IITs are top-tier colleges for engineering in India due to excellent research facilities, faculty, and, in many cases, placements are the best as most of the companies prefer IITian for job position, but they are not the only best colleges. Other colleges other than IITs are also best. Some of them are BITS Pilani, NITs, IIITs, DTU, VIT, and top state universities.

The last date to apply for IIT JAM 2026 was October 20, 2025. JAM registration link was available on the webste, jam2026.iitb.ac.in. Passed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board could apply online.

IIT JAM 2026 exam was conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. The exam was held on February 15, 2026. The exam duration was three hours. The test was conducted for seven papers in two shifts - forenoon and afternoon.

IIT JAM exam is conducted as computer based test. The exam duration is three hours. There will be 60 questions for 100 marks. The question paper has three sections: A, B, and C. Negative marking is done for Section A only.

IIT JAM morning shift started at 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. In the morning shift, Chemistry (CY), Mathematics (MA), and Geology (GG) papers were held. Students must report to the test centre at the time.

IIT Bombay released the JAM 2026 exam centre list on the website, jam2026.iitb.ac.in. Students can check the exam centre list to know the test cities name zonal wise.

 IIT Bhilai JEE Advanced cutoff 2025 was published for admission to the various BTech course specialisations for all rounds and categories under the All India category. 

For the General AI category, the overall cutoff varied between 6384 and 17478, according to the first and last round. Among all, the hardest for admission course for enrolment was  B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, with the cutoff ranging from 6384 to 7382
