With 98.3% in Class 12, you can easily meet the academic board criteria for IITs (65% required for ST). Since clearing JEE Advanced is mandatory for IIT admission, on the basis of JEE Main score of 56.77 percentile, you likely did not cross the ST category qualifying cutoff to appear for JEE Advanced.
So, getting admission to an IIT will not be possible this year.

No, JEE Advanced is compulsory for admission into any of the 23 IITs across India. To be eligible for JEE Advanced, you first need to qualify JEE Main and rank among the top candidates. The exam tests deeper conceptual understanding in Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. Only a limited number of top rankers from JEE Main get a shot at it. There's no alternate entry route for general category students.

BTech programme at Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai is often preferred over newer IITs if your main goal is chemical research. The campus has legendary industry roots and specialised chemical equipment that newer institutes lack. However, IITs might offer better brand value for non-chemical fields like software roles.
