The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is the undisputed leader and is ranked higher than the Indian Institutes of Technology. Look at the pointers given below -
- It consistently ranks #1 in the world, while IITs barely rank in one ranking body and that too very low.
- There is an utmost focus on research at MIT as it has an endowment of over USD 13 billion, but it outpaces the funding of all 23 IITs in India combined.
- Also, it is easier to get into MIT (acceptance rate of around 6 to 7%) than IIT (acceptance rate less than 1%).

No, IITs do not offer Aeronautical Engineering as a separate branch. However, the top IITs offer Aerospace Engineering — which is a bigger and better version of the same field. It covers not just aircraft, but also rockets, satellites, and spacecraft.

- IIT Delhi (via Mechanical with specialization)
