Several reputed colleges in Kerala offer Bachelor of Science (Optometry) programs based on Class 12th marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Notable institutions include Rayhan College of Optometry, Amrita Centre for Allied Health Sciences, Kerala University of Health Sciences, Al Shifa College of Paramedical Sciences, Itees College of Health Science, and Abate Group of Institutions Calicut. These colleges offer a four-year programme (three years of academics and one year of internship), with admissions primarily merit-based on higher secondary examination scores.

Hello,

Yes, if you have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) along with Computer Science in your 10+2, you are likely eligible for a B.Sc. in Optometry, as many institutions require a Science background with Physics, Chemistry, and either Biology or Mathematics.

Eligibility Criteria:

Science Stream: B.Sc. Optometry programs generally require candidates to have completed their Class 12 (or equivalent) with a Science stream, including subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) or Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM).

If you're interested in pursuing a B.Sc. in Optometry, there are other institutions that offer this course. For example, Dr. Agarwal's Institute of Optometry offers a four-year B.Sc. Optometry programme that includes both theoretical and practical training ¹. Similarly, Sunrise University also offers a B.Sc. Optometry programme with a comprehensive curriculum and clinical training ².

To confirm whether SKIMS offers a B.Sc. in Optometry course, I recommend visiting their official website or contacting their admissions department directly.

No, students cannot be admitted to Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences without undergoing entrance exams. Also, when you take admission in the institute through the entrance exam, you are admitted in the 1st year.

No, JIPMER Puducherry doesn't accept students on the basis of NEET for the B.Sc. in Optometry course. Rather, admissions are held on the basis of the entrance exam of JIPMER or according to the institute's admission policy. Applicants should have a 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Botany/Zoology, and English as core subjects. The selection process normally consists of an online entrance examination followed by counseling. Eligibility criteria, pattern of exams, and admission process can be altered every year, hence it's advised to refer to the official JIPMER website for updates.

While the core curriculum for the BSc Optometry course is generally similar in both private and government colleges, there may be some differences in the depth of training, resources, and infrastructure.

Government colleges offering BSc Optometry courses often follow a standardized curriculum set by regulatory bodies.

Private colleges, on the other hand, may offer a more flexible or updated curriculum with additional specialised electives or modern equipment, which can enhance practical learning.
