A gap year can be accepted if genuine such as if you gained work experience, etc. You must also have a good academic record and meet entry requirements to be accepted.

You can do a Diploma in engineering after 10th. Diploma in engineering is having a lot of trades, choose a trade and start your career.

If you have passed 10th board exams then you are eligible for Diploma but you have passed 12th, so you are also eligible for B.Tech. So I would suggest you that go for B.Tech. You can write JEE exam for the same.

Your basics should be clear. In an exam which Lacs of people give the CBSE checks the basics of the students. Marks of 12th grade are of no importance unless it is less than 75%.
