Thapar Institute of Engineering and technology has its lateral entry open for B.Tech courses. Thapar is a reputed college for engineering and technology related courses in Punjab. Yes, you can get direct admission in 2nd year but for that you have to clear the engineering entrance exam like:-UPTU, JEE, IPCET etc. through these entrance exam you can definitely get admission in 2nd year in their respective engineering colleges.

Anybody who could manage a good enough CGPA (around 7 and above) can get a lot of opportunities of internships and placements from reputed companies. And if you have managed to get a valid GATE score, you will get the scholarship. The tuition has been reduced from the time when I was in M.Tech. I think the selection criteria too may have changed. You will probably have to write another entrance test of Manipal to secure admission in M.Tech, but if you have cleared GATE, it will not be a big hurdle.
