Percentage required in qualifying exam is 50% for most of the engineering institutes. However, required percentage criteria depend on college. Diploma holders in the mechanical or allied stream are also eligible to take admission, in the second year of the course. They must have done their Diploma after10th.

It's very nice to hear from you that you are interested in working as R&D engineer or teaching or entrepreneur. I must congratulate you for not thinking of joining any company as an employee Great! Firstly to join an organisation in their Research and Development Department you must do your graduation and then your post graduation and if possible also doctoral thesis that is Ph.D. If you want to go into teaching line you will have to do your engineering graduation or post graduation if you want to teach in a college.
