Industrial Design Centre was established in Mumbai IIT in 1969. It was very visionary decision to have this along with premier IIT. It was established primarily to encourage the study of industrial design which is of vital importance for a country on the path of industrialisation. Yes, you may apply to NMIMS. Work experience is not mandatory for application purposes. NMIMS has a good mix of freshers and people with work experience.

No separate GD-PI rounds at SIMSREE. All the admissions are done through DTE Maharashtra's Centralised Application Process (CAP). Keep referring https://www.dtemaharashtra.gov.in for admission process updates/details.
