To gain admission through lateral entry to the B.Tech Mechanical Engineering programme, candidates usually need a diploma in engineering or a comparable qualification from a recognised institution. Admission rules, minimum marks, entrance exams, and available places can differ by college and academic session. It is advisable to verify the most recent eligibility requirements before applying.

For instance, LPU provides a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering on a lateral entry basis if the applicant meets the eligibility and admission criteria. Those with a relevant diploma should refer to the current admission guidelines and apply accordingl

Both an engineering diploma and an engineering degree have their own value, but the better choice depends on your career goals. If you have completed 10+2 and aim for broader career opportunities, higher-paying roles, postgraduate studies, and leadership positions, an engineering degree (B.Tech) is generally the better long-term option. A Diploma is ideal for students who want to enter the workforce earlier after Class 10 or gain practical technical skills, and many later opt for lateral entry into B.Tech. At Lovely Professional University (LPU), students pursuing B.Tech benefit from an industry-oriented curriculum, modern laboratories

If you have finished your Diploma and want to join the B.Tech programme at LPU through lateral entry, you can apply directly to the second year if you meet the requirements. Diploma holders from the same engineering field can pick a B.Tech specialisation that fits their background and career goals.

To get admitted, you need to check if you are eligible, fill out the application form, and make sure you meet all the requirements. LPU gives lateral-entry students opportunities for hands-on learning, access to modern labs, industry experience, and job placement support.

As of now, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology hasn't announced the 2026 schedule for B.Tech lateral entry admissions. The dates are usually released on the official admissions portal once the admission process begins.

Keep checking the admissions website regularly, as lateral entry notifications are published there first.

Yes, you can take admission in Government colleges through lateral entry after Diploma in CSE. For government colleges, you may need to appear in lateral entry entrance exams such as LEET, JELET, ECET, CUET, or sometimes JEE-based counselling depending on the state or university.

If you are not able to get admission in a government college, then you can also take lateral entry admission in private colleges through CUET, JEE, or direct admission process.

Most colleges allow Diploma students to join directly in the 2nd year (3rd semester) of B.Tech/B.E. CSE through lateral entry.

Lateral entry students at Lovely Professional University (LPU) receive excellent placement opportunities in CSE and related fields. Companies generally do not differentiate between regular and lateral entry students because both groups show strong coding skills and project experience and internship experience and communication abilities. LPU CSE placement drives attract recruiters from Amazon and Microsoft and Capgemini and Cognizant and TCS, who have helped many lateral entry students obtain high-paying jobs through their dedication to skill development.

hi,

No, you cannot join IITs through lateral entry after a diploma. Institutes like Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and other Indian Institutes of Technology only admit students into B.Tech (including aeronautical/aerospace) through the regular first-year route via Joint Entrance Examination Advanced, after qualifying Joint Entrance Examination Main. Diploma holders must follow the same process and start from first year—there is no direct 2nd-year entry.

Lovely Professional University offers a flexible pathway for diploma students by allowing lateral entry into B.Tech programs. With industry-oriented curriculum, modern labs, inte

Hi! Many private colleges create confusion with unclear admission criteria, hidden fees, and changing quotas. Thapar University is a genuine, accredited private university — always check eligibility, seat allocation, and fees before applying. Verify all details in writing and consult current students to avoid surprises.

Yes, GITAMN University does offer lateral entry into its BTech course for interested students. Candidates who wish to gain lateral entry into the 2nd year of BTech need to either clear a BSc course with Mathematics as one of the subjects or clear a Diploma in engineering and technology. The candidate must score a minimum aggregate of 60% in both cases.
