Hi, GMAT preparation requires a dedicated study plan. You must know which areas you are good and weak in. Take mock tests and you will know your current position. You can then prepare accordingly. It is best if you take help of a coaching center.

Take mock tests, if the scores are really low and you feel you require additional help take help of a coaching center. You must prepare a study plan and stick to it for better results.

GMAT is required for MBA admission. First, you need to meet the other eligibility criteria. If all is good, you can get exemption also.

You can have options without GMAT too, however it is the requirement of most of the good universities.

You need to register online on www.mba.com and pay the examination fee. You need passport.

Criteria for CAT u need to have a minimum of 50% in graduation (45% in case of sc &st)
or you must be final year of graduation and holds the above criteria.

You need to figure out which are the colleges that are taking direct admission. And you can directly apply to those colleges.

2nd year is a good time to prepare as you get option to reappear n you can focus on time line also while you are in final year.
GMAT you can take same year as score is valid till long. CAT you will have to take in final year
