Dear aspirant, Glad to meet you. Students who have done B.Sc. (IT/ CS are eligible to take admission in B.Tech Computer Science through lateral entry mode. According to the AICTE Guidance, candidates who have completed B.Sc. With a minimum mark of 45 percent and have completed class 12 with the subject of mathematics are eligible. So Yes, It is possible to join B.Tech course after completing B.Sc. Through the lateral entry scheme which is offered by most of the Engineering colleges. Hope it helps.

Basically it fluctuates year to year. As per the latest information, The cut off needed for M. Tech in Material science and engineering is 509 in GATE exam.

Coming to these two courses at two different IIT's, I feel that the one in Guwahati may encompass more areas and hence you will gain knowledge in these areas. The students who are graduating from IIT and have a CGPA of 8 or above out of 10, can get direct admission without appearing for GATE. And the students who are not from IIT should have to take 750-780 rank for securing a seat in any branch of IIT Kharagpur through GATE.
