For admission to the BSc course, candidates must have secured minimum marks in Class 12 decided by the college. The college accepts the score of CBSE 12th,  ISC,  Tamilnadu 12th, and various other scores for admission to the BSc and other UG courses. Institute of Distance Education University of Madras is not more expensive than the University of Madras. The distance education course fee is less than the fee for the regular college or university. This is due to the fact that offering distance education is not very expensive. The costs like canteen charges, transportation charges, electricity charges, and various other charges can be saved while providing distance education which is not the case for regular college or university.
