The time required to cover the JEXPO syllabus would vary for every student; however, it is recommended by the experts that students also prepare within two to three months of the exam's start date. The JEXPO syllabus was based on Mathematics and Physical Science up to Class X as prescribed by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE). JEXPO is conducted for admission to undergraduate Diplomacourses in Engineering & Technology offered in the various government and private Polytechnicinstitutions of the state.

JEXPO comprises 100 multiple choice questions. Each question carry one mark. The duration of the examination is two hours or 120 minutes. The exam starts at 10 am in the morning and conclude at 12 noon. In the OMR Answer Sheet, appropriate circles are to be ‘completely filled’ by using BLACK / BLUE BALL-POINT pen. More than one answer against any question will be treated as incorrect response / wrong answer. There will be no negative marking for wrong answer.

JEXPO 2025 exam will be conducted in offline pen-and-paper mode. Candidates who appeared for the exam were provided with OMR sheets to mark their responses. The documents required at the examination hall were original photo ID, including an Aadhaar card, admit card, certificate of madhyamik or equivalent, voter ID, driving licence, PAN card, passport, bank passbook, or any photo ID issued by the government.
