To begin with, Delhi is not the only center for Indian Institute of Mass Communication. It has its branches in Dhenkanal, Maharashtra, Kashmir, etc. For PG Diploma in Journalism, one needs to have all the current affairs on their tips along with a stronghold on English/Hindi - depending on the fact that in which language you chose to pursue Journalism in.
GK/Current Affairs:
These include not only MCQs but also in-detail answers for which the candidate needs to have in-depth information about that particular current affair. The long answers generally ask the students to give their take on a certain current affair/GK-related question. One should have quotes/examples at hand to make their answers stand out from others. For this, one needs to have a thorough newspaper reading habit. Current affairs of six-eight months before the scheduled date of exam are included.
English:
One should prepare for homophones (similar sounding words with different meanings), finding errors in sentences, word-meanings and make sentences, and unseen passage. It isn't as simple as it sounds and needs preparation.
Students can prepare on their own or take coaching if necessary.

If I say I'm a writer people ask about books, and while I'm working on one I haven't been published yet so I am hardly an expert. If I say I'm a journalist, people ask on what channel I appear. It's pretty sad people forget about newspapers these days! In my brain there's a difference, what do you think? Wondering why I am mentioning this dilemma on this question.
It is a basic answer to the question asked above. A career in journalism and a career in writing are completely different yet related to each other. While a student can enter into both the streams through different courses, today it is even possible to be a part of both streams via both courses. But, on a general perspective, following is the difference.
Through an English degree programme, you'll study literature and writing as well as develop effective communication and critical-thinking skills. A degree programme in journalism may prepare you to write, report, analyze and comment on significant news events. Although both disciplines study the mechanics of the English language and have an emphasis on writing, English degree programs can be used in a variety of different professions, whereas journalism programs teach you to apply your writing skills specifically to careers with newspapers, online journals and other news reporting outlets.
