To become a Journalist, You should pursue BA in Journalism or Mass Communication (BJMC/ BMM) . Pursuing B.Sc in Mass Communication will also make you a well qualified professional as B.Sc gives you a leverage to work in a research and education institute. You can even become a teacher at a Mass Communication college with B.Sc degree.
If you want to pursue the course within Kanpur city itself, then yes JIMMS is a good option.
