Yes, it will affect mechanical, but for basic functioning they need mechanical, for balancing they need mechanical engineer, for designing also. Automobile will hardly be preferred than mechanical engineering.

You can study Masters in mechanical engineering or pursue Masters in specific disciplines like automotive engineering, robotics, transportation design, etc. Decide as per your interest. See here:

Of course, it's possible to change your branch in same college. But for this there would be some preconditions. Firstly you should score very well in your present branch so that you are in top of the merit list of those who desire change. Secondly, there should be vacancies available in your intended branch.
