It's nice to see your enthusiasm in clearing NET. Yes, you will definitely gain by it. But as per my advise you should select that subject in which you have passion or interest. This is always the best policy.

Of course, it's possible to change your branch in same college. But for this there would be some preconditions. Firstly you should score very well in your present branch so that you are in top of the merit list of those who desire change. Secondly, there should be vacancies available in your intended branch.
