Every branch of engineering has different scopes. I think mechanical engineering has more scope than automobile or automotive engineering.

Hello Mudit,
As you have guessed correctly, in earlier times there were three branches namely civil, mechanical and electrical. Subsequent to this technology kept improving and hence need was felt to have different branches. Thus mechanical spawned automobile, Structures, Aeronautical, etc. Each year some new branch is coming. For official Information please refer to webpage of AICTE.

Hello Sachin,
Normally speaking, one needs diploma in the particular branch to be eligible for admission in engineering in that particular branch. However, many states and Institutions including IIT's accept diploma as equivalent to 12th and hence you can take admission to any branch of your choice in first year, after following due process.

Yes, it will affect mechanical, but for basic functioning they need mechanical, for balancing they need mechanical engineer, for designing also. Automobile will hardly be preferred than mechanical engineering.

You can study Masters in mechanical engineering or pursue Masters in specific disciplines like automotive engineering, robotics, transportation design, etc. Decide as per your interest. See here:
