Basic salary package depends on the company. The maximum package that went this time was around Rs 6.7 lakhs. On an average the package is around Rs 4 lakhs and there are a lot of job opportunities. Companies like Maruti suzuki, Mercedes, Bosch, etc. come to campus every year for recruitments.

Hi Aju,
Mentioned below are some of the courses that you can pursue:
CATIA V5 (running well as of now), AutoCAD (best tool before CATIA), solidworks, Pro E, Hypermesh, ANSYS, UNIGRAPHICS (current trend).
Stick to the basic tools first like AutoCAD and solid edge and then big tools like CATIA and UG as they can be learnt easily (as far as designing is concerned). If you are interested in analysis Ansys, CFD and hypermesh then go for them as they are the best tools to get trained.
