To get admission to M.Tech at NIT Silchar, candidates need to be graduated with minimum 60% aggregate with BE/BTech from a recognised University. Additionally, the university from which the candidate obtained their undergraduate degree must be recognised by the government or an appropriate regulatory body.

To secure admission to the Master of Technology (MTech) programme at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar, candidates are required to primarily go through an entrance-based selection process. They must appear for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) entrance exam and achieve a qualifying score, Once the GATE exam results are released, candidates who have obtained a valid score can apply for admission to the M.Tech programme at NIT Silchar. The final selection of candidates for admission is based on the Centralized Counselling for MTech/MArch/MPlan (CCMT) process. CCMT is a centralized online counseling process
