For general category, it is above 200. However, it also depends on which NITs are you aiming for and your domicile state. You can get into some new engineering branches at lower marks as well. To opt for CS, IT and ECE in top NITs, you need to get at least 250 marks in JEE Mains. It depends on your domicile state.

Hello,
Joint seat allocation authority every year declares cut offs. Initially expected and subsequently final cutoff marks for admission to IIT/NIT, etc. You will have to wait to know this for admission in 2017. The cutoff for the category to which you belong was around 50 for the year 2016.

In India, there are multiple type of the technical institutes such as:
1. Central Government Funded Institutions.
2. State Government/ State Funded Institutions and
3. Self-Financed Institutions.
IIT, NITs, IIITs, IISC, IISER, NITTTR and nine other specialized technical educational institutes are CFTIs. All these have been formed to provide excellent technical education and have their own standing.

NITs currently do not have provision for lateral entry admission in B.Tech for Diploma holders. You can seek admission by appearing for JEE in first year of engineering as you have done class 12th.
