Least  count of Vernier = 0.1mm

Reading of Vernier Scale = 5 * 0.1 = 0.5mm

The corrected diameter of sphere = Main Scale Reading + Vernier Scale reading + Zero correction = 1.7 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 1.8cm = 180 * 10-2 cm.

Amplitude is proportional to the slit – width, thus,

A 1 A 2 = 3

l m a x l m i n = ( A 1 + A 2 ) 2 ( A 1 A 2 ) 2 = ( A 1 A 2 + 1 ) 2 ( A 1 A 2 1 ) 2 = ( 3 + 1 ) 2 ( 3 1 ) 2 = 4 .

If μ  is Poisson's ratio,

Y = 3K (1 - 2 μ )      ……… (1)

and Y = 2 n ( 1 + μ )  ……… (2)

With the help of equations (1) and (2), we can write

  3 Y = 1 η + 1 3 k K = η Y 9 η 3 Y

h f 1 = R ( 1 1 2 1 3 2 ) = R * 8 9

h f 2 = R ( 1 1 2 1 2 2 ) = R * 3 4

f 1 f 2 = 8 / 9 3 / 4 = 3 2 2 7

f2 = f1 * ( 2 7 3 2 )

= ( 2 . 9 2 * 1 0 1 5 ) * ( 2 7 3 2 )

= 2 . 4 6 * 1 0 1 5 H z
