In many private schools and preschools, yes ECCE or a similar training (like NTT or D.El.Ed.) is preferred or mandatory. The National Education Policy 2020 is also emphasizing trained early childhood educators, especially under the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) mission.

So, doing ECCE boosts your credibility, job options, and salary as a preschool teacher.

  • In India, in order to teach in a school at the TGT/PGT level, it usually requires a B.Ed. degree. If you want to teach in a government school, you will need to clear exams like CTET/TET.
  • To work as a professor/assistant professor in a college or a university, one needs to pass the National Eligibility Test (NET) or State Level Eligibility Test (SLET).
Although a master's degree is always preferred, in case you already have an M.Sc., it is a good starting point. Some institutions may value teaching or research experience in addition to qualifications.

Not always but it's highly recommended. Some private playschools might hire teachers without formal training, but to get good jobs, promotions, and credibility, especially in CBSE/ICSE-affiliated or international pre-schools, an NTT certification makes a huge difference. Also, if you're planning to open your own preschool, this training gives you the right foundation.

Pursuing a D.Ed is a great first step, but to grow your career, you should consider the following things:

  • Doing B.Ed. after gaining some teaching experience
  • Consider appearing for TET and teaching service commission exams
  • Learning technology tools (for online teaching)
  • Upgrading with specializations like inclusive education or pre-primary education

This way you can move from classroom teacher to head teacher, coordinator or even education officer in the long run.
