The minimum requirements for admission to B.E./B.Tech Degree courses are:
Completing 10+2 Level of Examination from a recognized board of education with minimum 50% for General Category, 45% for Backward Category, 40% for Reserved Category in Maths, Physics and Chemistry marks put together.

You have not mentioned which category you belong to. With a cut-off of 140, if you belong to the general category, the chances of procuring a seat in ECE in some top colleges are less than comparing the results of previous years. To get a seat in ECE in some top colleges like SSN and PSG, one should have a cut-off score of 190 or above to remain in the safe zone. But, one thing to keep in mind is that scores and ranks vary each year with the difficulty level of the question paper and availability of seats. You can try for a management quota, if possible.
