Yes, you have to qualify the NET exam in order to become an assistant professor. The CSIR NET Exam is conducted for the Science stream candidates while UGC NET exam is conducted for the other stream candidates. The NET exam was conducted by CBSE which will be conducted by NTA from December 2018. The minimum eligibility is post graduation degree which you fulfill already. The CSIR NET exam is conducted for the life Science, Chemical Science, physical Science, Earth Science and mathematical Science. You may also apply for UGC NET pharmacy.

UGC NET Paper 1 is conducted as the first phase of Exam in UGC NET. While there are two phases in this exam. Paper 1 plays a major role.
