Hello Bharat, The fees charged by each IIT is different. Also charges for hostel to vary from IIT to IIT. However as a rule of thumb one can say that total expenses may come to about Rs.2-3 L PA.
No, if you are doing diploma in mechanical engineering you cannot apply for IIT or NIT because it has stopped taking any lateral entry admission and if you have done your 12th then you can surely apply for the JEE mains advanced.
From 2017, you will only be requiring 75% or you need to be in the top 20 percentile of your state board to be eligible for IIT , board marks wont be given preference in calculating the final merit

Oh no. MIT does not accept students in middle of the course. But why leave IIT? It is the best institute for doing engineering, perhaps even better than MIT.
Admissions in IIT depend on rank not on marks. Rank vs marks trend always changes in JEE Advanced. Even no one knows the full marks of the exam. So, prepare nicely and give your best to get aerospace in IIT. Currently, only in 4 IITs aerospace is there. IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Bombay & IIT-Madras are these IITs offering this course.
Congratulations on your rank! Based on your rank in the OBC category, you may have a chance to get into some of the NITs for CSE. However, it may be difficult to get into IITs for CSE with this rank. To get CSE in top 5 IITs, your rank should be under 250. Rank under 700 gives CSE branch in all AVERAGE IITs. Rank under 100 gives CSE in IIT Delhi. Also, NIT Tiruchirappalli is the best and the oldest among other NITs with excellent placements and infrastructure.
IIT tag is surely worth a year but only if you are willing to sacrifice most of the things. Hard work always pays. But on the other hand, if you feel that NIT is worth it, then you should give it a try.
You can get any IIT college but it all depends on the branch you want. If you want CSE, then you can get IIT Tirupati, IIT Palakkad, IIT Goa, IIT Dharwad, IIT Bhilai, IIT Jammu, etc. So, it all depends on which branch you want. All IIT colleges are good and better than many other colleges.
Diploma holders are eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) therefore they can apply to appear in JEE Main but rank and score of such students for JEE (Main) is not declared as Diploma holders cannot apply for admission in NITs and CFTIs through JEE (Main) channel.

For appearing in IIT - JEE exam, you need to clear JEE Mains exam. Unfortunately, you can't give JEE Mains exam if you have not appeared for 10+2 boards. Try securing admission via Diploma to Degree counselling. But remember, IITs don't have a quota for Diploma to Degree students.

Depends on your choice. If you are passionate about coding, go for NIT, if you don't like coding, CSE is for you. In that case, go for IIT electric. Both are good, and you are doing from premier institutes. It entirely depends upon you. Both these colleges have their brand name. You can decide whether to be an IITian or NITian. But if you are concerned with the knowledge then NIT, Trichy cannot be replaced by IIT Dhanbad. Apart from that, NIT has cent percent record in placements.
