In India only few universities offer undergraduate courses in Astronomy. Most students start with a BSc in Physics and specialize in Astronomy at the postgraduate level. Some institutes offer integrated programs for Astronomy. Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram – BTech in Space Science and Technology

Osmania University, Hyderabad – BSc in Astronomy

St. Xavier's College, Mumbai – BSc in Astrophysics

Pursue BSc Physics or Mathematics, then specialize in Astronomy through MSc or research programs at institutions like IISc, IUCAA, or IIA for stronger foundation.

Through the School of Advanced Sciences (SAS), VIT Vellore provides a thorough M.Sc. degree in Physics. Classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, electromagnetic, and thermodynamics are just a few of the physics topics covered in this two-year postgraduate program. Although the curriculum places a strong emphasis on fundamental physics topics, students can also take elective courses that, depending on faculty competence and research interests, allow them to delve deeper into specialised fields like astrophysics. The curriculum is intended to educate students for professions in academia and industry or for advanced research.

Yes, you can do a Master's in Space Science after doing B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE). Most of the universities consider candidates from engineering backgrounds for their space Science programs, provided you have a sound interest in the field. Be sure to check prerequisites for any of the university names you are interested in because some may require specific courses already completed or relevant experience before you can apply. Overall, your ECE background will help you in this area!
