You have not mentioned your state. Some states conduct CET for getting admission in diploma while in some states it is based on marks obtained in the 10th class. You can find detailed information on the official website of DTE of your state.

After completing Diploma in automobile engineering, you can opt for basic entry-level jobs. However, such jobs won't provide you with a decent salary. If you wish to increase your salary and better career opportunities, you can opt for B.Tech in Automobile Engineering. This will certainly increase your salary package and also provide you better job roles. If you wish to pursue further studies, you can also opt for MBA or M.Tech after completion of B.Tech.

After completing class 12th, you need to appear for various entrance examinations. I would suggest you to appear for JEE Mains and Advanced. These two entrance examinations provide admissions to IITs/ NITs and other government colleges, which are cost-effective.
I would also suggest you to appear for individual state examinations (OJEE in Odisha, EAMCET in Andhra Pradesh/ Telangana, COMEDK in Karnataka, etc.). These exams also guarantee you good colleges and serve as a backup in case things don't end up the way you've planned for IIT/ AIEEE.
Every state has its own share of good engineering colleges. So, don't underestimate or over
