While, the exact amount of time required to prepare for the entrance exam for BTech Civil Engg. cannot be said with any certainty, you should start preparing for the same at least 6 to 8 months before the exam date.
This will give you enough time to go through the entire exam syllabus, cover a majority of the syllabus, and have time to revise all the important topics. You can increase your chances of getting a good score and rank if you make a timetable and pick up at least one topic every day.

The answer to this question will vary from person to person. The difficulty level of the entrance test often depends on the preparation of the applicants. For example, if you have worked very hard and covered all the topics given in the exam syllabus, you will find the exam paper very easy to attempt. Meanwhile, for your friend, that same question paper could turn out to be a disaster and the most difficult, as they might not have prepared that well for the test.
