Stress is everywhere.
The most important thing is that which area fascinates you the most. USA has very good scope in mechanical engineering. But please ensure Never apply to AZ, CA, NM as most of the companies here are defence companies and will not hire a foreigner.
For Canada, the scope is good if you study either of the engineering from a Canadian University.

GATE 2017 was easy as compared to 2016 and 2015. So, you can expect the cutoff doe Chemical engineering to be anywhere between 34-38 out of 100. Having said that the ranks would fall in this order approximately:
Rank Under 100 75+
101 to 250 65 to 75
251 to 500 55 to 65
Rank 500+ Less than 55

It is good to hear that you are planning to do chemical engineering which is a core branch of engineering not run of mill CSE or IT. India has a very well developed chemical industry including petroleum and gas both in government and private sectors. It is a core sector with lots of government and big corporate houses support.
