The time involved in the Control Systems entrance exam preparation differs based on the particular exam that you're planning to appear for and the course level, but ideally, you should start at least 6 to 8 months before the final entrance exam date so that you have enough time to prepare for the entrance tests, cover the entire syllabus, practice mock tests, and revise the important topics in the last 1-2 months.

No, an IMUCET rank is not required to get admission into CUSAT (Cochin University of Science and Technology). CUSAT has its own entrance examination, called CUSAT CAT (Common Admission Test), for admissions into its various undergraduate and postgraduate programs. IMUCET, on the other hand, is an entrance exam for admission into marine and nautical Science programs at institutions affiliated with the Indian Maritime University. Therefore, to get a seat at CUSAT, you would need to appear for and get a good rank in the CUSAT CAT.
