Try to pursue it based on your interest but I would suggest you to purse chemical engineering but see to it if you are good in chemistry, go for it.

Maybe No, actually IIT M accepts MAT scores only for sponsored candidates not regular. You can go to IIT M as a fresher only through CAT scores.

Yes, commerce graduates are allowed for admissions.
The placement scenarios are given below. Final placement snapshot (Batch 2014-2016):
1. The highest placement package: Rs.20.93 LPA.
2. The top 50% average placement package: Rs.13.21 LPA.
3. The top 50% median placement package: Rs.12 LPA.
4. The average placement package: Rs.10.83 LPA.
5. The median placement package: Rs.11 LPA.
