Though, you have a decent category rank, I would suggest you to try for MANIT CSE, or MVNIT, Jaipur with EEE or mechanical. You will not get the top 4 NIT's but try hard for IIIT's. Use college predictor to get a better Idea. https://www.shiksha.com/b-tech/resources/jee-mains-college-predictor.

Frankly, you should not keep hope with it as the marks are very less to be into the good NIT's or any IIIT's, DTU etc. Moreover, try getting into Private universities or autonomous institutions of state government.

Yes, the closing rank for general caste was 4173 last year, hence he is more likely to get into it.

Your VIT branches are decided by VITEEE. Hence, apply for VITEEE and qualify it and check that results to see which branch you get.

Yes, the closing rank for NIT,Trichy CSE for General category was 4173 in 2017, hence you are likely to get that.

Yes, you can apply for MANIT through JEE Mains. This is though an obvious as mains is primarily held for NIT's only.

Your score are not enough to fetch you a NIT. You can go for private colleges, if you prefer CSE. But, go for good reputed ones. Though the fees may be higher. Even you can try for your state colleges.
