English literature is as diverse as the varieties of English spoken around the world. The subjects typically studied under this degree are drama, poetry, prose, fiction, Literary Criticism, New Literature in English, etc. Throughout the English speaking world, the works of William Shakespeare remain to be paramount compared to the diverse authors of English literature. The basic eligibility criteria for pursuing M.Phil English course is a pass degree in M.A. English with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent examination. To get admission to this course, candidates have to take a written test followed by an interview. The duration of M.Phil English course is about 2 years.

Motilal Nehru College offers bachelors courses for candidates who hold Higher Senior Secondary Certificate with minimum 45% aggregate marks. Bachelors is offered in Economics, English, Political Science, History, Hindi, Sanskrit, Commerce, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Physical Science. While admitting students for a particular course, the candidates' score in top three subjects and one language subject will be considered. Admissions to all the undergraduate courses are merit based. A cut-off list will be published by DU. Candidates who score the given marks in the list are eligible to take admission. The annual intake for Bachelors courses is 1065 students.
