As their names suggest, an academic LOR is used for vouching for the academic prowess of the candidate. It is mainly written by a subject teacher or a professor who can throw a light on your academic capabilities. While a professional LOR is used to highlight your professional skills. Immediate supervisors, managers, and employers usually write this letter to mention about candidate's performance and growth in a professional setting, showcasing his/her alignment in the intended program.

The requirement of a letter head depends on the format in which professional LOR is required. Most MBA programs provide a form with questions for a recommender about candidate's abilities. In such cases, recommender will receive a direct link from the university to fill the responses. However, when universities require a formal letter of recommendation, the letter should be printed on the official letterhead of the company.

Although a positive LOR is essential, noting areas for improvement can also provide more legitimacy to the letter. An employer may bring up a certain ability or subject where you first struggled but eventually made progress via work and education. For instance, if you struggled with public speaking at first but overcame your fears by taking classes and practicing, this demonstrates your dedication to self-improvement and your capacity for overcoming obstacles. This well-rounded method offers a more complete picture of your character and career path.

A letter of recommendation is a crucial part of your university application. It helps in enhancing your chances of selection as a recommender can vouch your suitability for the program. Having observed your performance, skills and growth from close quarters, a recommender can provide genuine feedback, assuring the university about your worthiness as a prospective student.
