You'd need to study a lot of design theory and principles, design history, materials, and manufacturing methods to name a few. You'd need to learn all the necessary computer programs, which can be done now with online tutorials. You would need to learn to sketch and spend a lot of time practicing.

Yes, you can. The eligibility for the M.Des programme from the National Institute of Fashion Technology is a Graduation Degree from a recognised university in any discipline. Preference is given to candidates with a Bachelor's degree in applied arts/ B.A. (Fine Arts)/ B.Sc. (Textiles & Clothing)/ B.Arch. Or Design Diploma/ Degree from NIFT/NID. Fashion Designing is a graduation course and if you already did a graduation course you should go for master degrees such as M.com or MBA but if you having an interest in fashion designing go for side diploma course to enhance your interest in realted field.

The eligibility criteria of IIT-B, IIT-G and IIT-H is given below. Eligibility: Four-year Bachelors' degree or equivalent in Design/ Engineering/ Architecture/ Interior Design or a Design related field with a minimum CPI of 6.0 out of 10 or minimum 60 of marks. Or
Four year Professional Diploma in Design of NID or Professional Diploma of CEPT (5-year programme) with a minimum CPI of 6.0 out of 10 or minimum 60% of marks. So None IIT is given admission in M.Des. For graduate in any discipline.

The basic difference between these two courses is that the M.Des. Course deals with research in design, whereas the MFM deals with business aspects of fashion. Here is a comparison to help you decide which is better suited for you:
