To get admission to the IITs for Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering courses at the UG level, you should have at least 75% marks in Class 12 in the PCM subjects. Also, you should give relevant entrance exams like JEE Main and JEE Advanced and get excellent marks and rank in the same.

Further, you need to complete the college application process in due time. After the exam results are out and you've got your result, make sure to apply for the JoSAA counselling where you will be given a seat for the chosen course. You can then complete the admission formalities by paying the Naval Architecture course fees and confirming your admission.

For PG courses also, the process is similar. The only difference is that you should have a bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture or a relevant field with at least 60% marks and give the GATE exam and participate in the COAP counselling session to be given a seat.

For studying courses in Naval Architecture, you may come across colleges and universities that have set some sort of age bar for the course. For example, the Indian Maritime University, a well-known institution that offers Naval Architecture courses, has set the upper age limit of 25 years in the case of general category male students, and 27 years for general category female students. If you belong to the reserved category, there is some relaxation given.

Also, it is seen that the lower age limit is usually 17 years when students apply for admission to courses in this field. Rest, you can check the admission guideline given on the websites of the colleges you wish to study the course at to have a clear idea of any such age restrictions for admission.

The Naval Architecture courses allow admission to 27% seats for Other Backward Classes (OBC) students within the Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) categorization. Indian Maritime University (IMU) along with other institutions implements a reservation policy that governs entry to their M.Tech programs in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) apply the same reservation system to benefit Other Backward Classes-NCL candidates through their 27% reserved seats.
