You can definitely get lateral entry admission to the BTech in Naval Architecture course after completing a 3-year diploma in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field with at least 50% marks in the final Diploma exams.
You can directly go to the 3rd sem of the BTech in Naval Architecture course and complete the degree in 3 years instead of 4 years.

The syllabus for Naval Architecture courses is not same rather differs on the basis of the level at which you're pursuing the course, UG, PG, or diploma, and the college offering the program. Despite the coursework pattern being different, the concepts taught in the Naval Architecture classes are almost similar and cover the basics of ship design and construction, oceanography, thermodynamics, ship theory, AutoCAD, knowledge of offshore structures, practical lab work, etc.

A basic list of docs for Naval Architecture admission process is as follows

  • Graduation scorecard (For PG courses)
  • Class 12th mark sheet with 50 to 60% marks in the Science background
  • Class 10th mark sheet
  • Valid Identity Proof (Aadhar, PAN Card, Passport)
  • Reserved Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • Physical Fitness Certificate
  • Migration and Character Certificates
  • Passport-size photos
  • Carry extra photocopies of all documents

To get admission to the IITs for Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering courses at the UG level, you should have at least 75% marks in Class 12 in the PCM subjects. Also, you should give relevant entrance exams like JEE Main and JEE Advanced and get excellent marks and rank in the same.

Further, you need to complete the college application process in due time. After the exam results are out and you've got your result, make sure to apply for the JoSAA counselling where you will be given a seat for the course. You can then complete the admission formalities by paying the Naval Architecture course fees and confirming your admission.

For studying courses in Naval Architecture, you may come across colleges and universities that have set some sort of age bar for the course. For example, the Indian Maritime University, a well-known institution that offers Naval Architecture courses, has set the upper age limit of 25 years in the case of general category male students, and 27 years for general category female students. If you belong to the reserved category, there is some relaxation given.

Naval Architecture courses are mostly available at the diploma, UG, and PG levels in India. If you go for a UG course in Naval Architecture after Class 12 like a BTech in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, you need to invest a total of 4 years as the course is split into 8 semesters. For PG Naval Architecture courses, the duration is 2 years. Further, a diploma in the field after completing Class 10 will take up 3 years to complete. There are PG Diploma programs in Naval Construction as well that can be studied after completing graduation and are 1-year long.
