IIT Madras BTech Eligibility & Highlights 2025
BTech at IIT Madras is a four-year programme offered across 32 specialisations in full-time mode. Some of the specialisations include BTech CSE, BTech Chemical Engineering, BTech Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, etc. Admission to IIT Madras BTech courses is completely entrance-based. The institute also offers a five-year integrated course of BTech + MTech in four other specialisations. IIT Chennai admission 2025 for both courses is done through a common process.
IIT Madras BTech admission is based on the JEE Main, followed by the JEE Advanced score. The centralised counselling process is managed and regulated by the JoSAA, based on which candidates are allotted seats. The seat allotment is based on the institute cut-off and a candidate's preference for courses and colleges. The registration and choice filling of JoSAA 2024 generally begins in the third week of June in online mode.

STEP 1: IIT Madras BTech Application Process 2025
For IIT Madras BTech admissions, students are required to apply via JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced application. The process of application for JEE Main consists of three steps, i.e., registration, form filling & document upload followed by payment of application fees. - Open the official website (jeemain.nta.nic.in) and click on the ‘Registration for JEE (Main)’ link.

- Register through the official website by providing their JEE Main roll number, password, and security pin.
- Now, the students have to enter personal details like their name, parents’ name, communication details, address details etc.
- Students must also enter their choices of exam centres while filling out the application form.
- Apart from the details, students will also need to upload scanned images of their passport-size photograph and signature.

The institute has released branch-wise salary data for BTech and M.Tech courses. As per the report, the highest package offered to BTech, DD, and IDDD students from CSE was INR 1.31 crore per annum and for M.Tech CSE, the highest package stood at INR 54.21 LPA. Every year, NTA conducts the JEE Main entrance exam for the selection of eligible candidates in IIT, NIT and IIITs. The admission process for JEE Main 2026 (session 1) registrations has been completed. JEE Main 2026 session 1 exam will be held from January 21 to 30, and session 2 will be held from April 2 to 9. January 21 to 30.
Yes, a full-time four-year BTech course is available at IIT Madras. Admission to this course is completely entrance-based. Candidates can pursue BTech course across various popular specialisations, including Aerospace Engineering, Aerospace3 Engineering, CSE, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, etc. IIT Madras BTech admission are offered on total 1,195 seats through a common admission process. Candidates are selected based on valid JEE Main, followed by JEE Advanced scores.
Computer Science and Engineering is one of the top specialisation and popular BTech & M.Tech specialisations offered at IIT Madras. The institute provides CSE by the department of Computer Science and Engineering department. The curriculum of the course provides depth learning around the concepts of (OS / Networks / DB) and modern (ML / Data Mining) aspects of computing.
As per the placements report of the year 2023, students of BTech (CSE) received the highest package of INR 1.31 crore per annum and for MTech CSE, the highest package stood at INR 54.21 LPA.
IIT Madras applications for BTech start with JEE Main registrations. To apply for BTech, candidates must fill out the application form for JEE (Main) through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in). The application fee for boys is INR 1,000 and INR 800 for girls.
After the commencement of JEE Main exam, candidates have to qualify for JEE Advanced entrance exam. Only candidates who qualify for the JEE Main exam are eligible to fill JEE Advanced form All the steps of JEE Advanced registration are as follows:
- Login with JEE Main 2024 application number and password.
- Furnish the details in the registration form. JEE Main details in the form will be prefilled from its database.
- Fill out the complete application form, upload the required documents and pay the application fee.
- Download and print the registration receipt.
The first session exam was conducted on January 22, 23, 24, 28 and 29, 2025 (Paper 1), and January 30, 2025 (Paper 2). The second session of JEE Mains was held from April 1 to 8, 2025. The JEE Main 2025 exam date for sessions 1 and 2 can be checked on the website jeemain.nta.nic.in.
Candidates can check the JEE Main 2026 exam date allotted to them on their city intimation slip and JEE Main admit card. Candidates have to download the city intimation slip and admit card from the official website as per the schedule
For last year, the closing rank for BTech in Civil Engineering was 6106 which is very close to this range. This was for the General category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one cannot afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing year on year, it is advisable to try to score better ranks to increase your chances of getting admission to IIT Madras - Indian Institute of Technology.

Yes, IIT Madras MBA admissions are open now. The institute is accepting online applications for its MBA course through the DoMS admission portal. Students must apply before the last date of application i.e., Jan 31, 2026.

Yes, COAP registration is mandatory for IIT Madras admissions done on the basis of GATE exam. The institute accepts GATE + COAP for both M.Tech and MA admissions. Any student choosing to register via GATE score at the institute must register on COAP portal as well.
