No,  GATE is not compulsory and is only one of the criteria for admission. Aspirants with a valid UGC NET/CSIR NET can also apply. Candidates without any valid national-level exam score can also appear for the written test conducted by the institute.

There is no such provision for direct admission to the PhD programme at SJMSOM. Candidates seeking admission to the PhD in management programme should fulfil the following eligibility criteria:

  • BE/ BTech with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% for reserved categories) and at least two years of work experience.
  • Master of Management /ME / M.Tech / MPharm/ MPhil/2 years MBA or 2 year PG Diploma in Management from any institute recognised by a Government body (AICTE / UGC/AIU) with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% for reserved categories)

After the conclusion of the application procedure, candidates are shortlisted based on scores in GATE/ UGC-NET (Lectureship)/ UGC-JRF/ CSIR-NET/ CAT/ GMAT/ GRE. Based on the cutoff marks, candidates with a score equal to or higher than the cutoff are selected. The eligible candidates without a valid score have to appear for an entrance test (which is an Aptitude Test covering four sections – English Comprehension, Quantitative Ability, Analytical Reasoning and Data Interpretation). Shortlisted students further have to appear for an interview.

Candidates enrolled in a PhD programme have to complete a one-year coursework. Following this, candidates in the full-time course have to complete it in 3-4 years. Other candidates can take a little longer to complete the course.
