To apply for PhD admission at NIT Calicut, visit the official website of the institute and submit a duly filled application form online. However, it is mandatory for candidates to have met the basic eligibility, i.e. a master's degree in a relevant discipline and a valid score in the entrance exams accepted by the institute.

Admission to PhD course is based on Bennett Research Aptitude Test (BRAT) conducted by the university. Besides, the university also accepts national-level entrance exams like UGC NET, CSIR, GATE, ICAR, SLET for admission to PhD courses. Once the entrance exam is conducted, candidates are called for presentation of preliminary research proposal and an interview round.
The university declares the result of BRAT on the official website of the university. Selected candidates have to pay the programme fee to confirm their seat in the university.

The total tuition fee for PhD course is INR 1.8 lakh. Aspirants are required to pay the course fee after completion of all the selection rounds to confirm their seats. The selection for PhD course will be based on Bennett Research Aptitude Test (BRAT) followed by a personal interview round. BRAT is conducted by Bennett University and schedule for the same will be updated on the official website. In case, a candidate is unable to pay the fee within the specified time, his or her admission will stand cancelled.

Bennett University eligibility criteria varies specialisation-wise for PhD course. However, the common eligibility among all is that aspirants with bachelor's degree with honours and a rigorous research report in the major or relevant area of study and 75% marks of 8.0 CGPA on a 10 point scale in the relevant programme can apply for any of the PhD specialisations. Below is PhD specialisation-wise eligibility criteria:

The minimum course credit requirement for PhD shall be 10 credits (four research methodology + six others aligned to research plan) for M.Tech qualified candidates. The course work should be done preferably within one semester or maximum two semesters. The credits requirements for students having MSc or equivalent qualification shall be 13 credits (four research methodology + nine others aligned to research plan).
