Hello shubham, lateral entry in either software engineering or any other branch of engineering is by the same method. Some States conduct an entrance exam for those who have passed Diploma in engineering and are desirous of seeking lateral admission in engineering courses. On the other hand some States give admission to second year of engineering by lateral mode based on marks obtained in Diploma examination. I would advise you to check the website of the directorate of technical education of your state to know the details. I guess software is a better option because in both the branches after 4 years you'll sit in an IT sector job so studying that part and not other subjects are quite good and you'll not get too much pressure.

It's good if you are good at coding or you have an interest in programming then you'll surely get an excellent placement from the branch. My friend recently grabbed a 90k per month internship from the software engineering branch. So, Definitely, his placement will be much higher than the internship stipend.
