Mechanical department of Thapar is well recognized. Thapar's best branch is mechanical. So, yes, placements of any sub-branch of mechanical is good. If you have interest, take it without any doubt.

It's indeed nice to see that you are getting admission in Thapar in your desired branch. For becoming an IAS officer, you need to pass civil service exam, for which being a graduate is a must. So if you study well during four years at Thapar, it'll actually add up to preparation for IAS. Best wishes.

There is no any chance of getting Thapar University. You may go for Chandigarh University, Sharda, etc.

Yes. You can give a try. According to first counselling list of thapar, 60 score can get you in your 2-3rd preferred branch. But undoubtedly, you can get admission in thapar. Visit: www.thapar.edu.
