India has very well developed Chemical Industry including Petroleum & gas both in Government and private sector. It is core sector with lot of Government and big corporate houses support. Chemical Engineers have good scope in India and abroad. Both M.Tech and MBA are good career options after Chemical engineering graduation degree. M.Tech will make you a specialist in chosen field of chemical engineering and you can make career as a technologist. Most of Petrochemical industry CEO and top management consist of technologist. You may seek admission in M.Tech if you are technically inclined. If you are not technically inclined then you may opt for MBA and become a generalist. After MBA you can shift industry. Currently scope of MBA is wider but slowly industry has started paying good salaries to technologist also.

The placements of VNIT CSE are the best, as compared to the other departments/branches. Many top companies, like Morgan Stanley, Amazon, etc. visit here every year. The packages are not that high, as compared to CSE of IITs or CSE of top NITs, but still better than that of some other NITs, and the private colleges. Youll definitely get a job, with a decent package, at a reputed company. Moreover, the NIT tag, as well as the reputed company tag, would further enhance your growth in the future.
Unfortunately, the scope of getting international packages is negligible or almost null. No international offer has been made this year or for the past 3 years. But many students go abroad to pursue a Master's degree. Also, most of the students would find it easy to get an international job in near future, due to the reputation of the college (More than half of the students graduated in the 1990s are currently settled abroad).

This decade belongs to Electronics and Telecommunications. Electronics and Telecommunications will continue to impact all walks of life including business. Next wave of Industrial revolution is automation and electronics will play a vital role in it. ECE engineers can be employed in all type of industries including IT. Computer Science is the facilitating technology for all business and personal activities. Indian IT industry is worlds largest outsourcing hub. Computer Science engineering is dominating the job market for last 15 years. Indian computer industry has started to show an early sign of decline due to the outcry against outsourcing in the western world. Therefore, Electronics &Telecommunication is the best option with respect to career opportunities and scope. Computer Science will continue to be a good career option for some time in the field of Engineering. IT graduates have similar career opportunities as CSE graduates. CSE graduates have a minor advantage over IT graduates in the job market. Mechanical is an evergreen branch for last 50 years and will continue to remain same in next 50 years. Chemical Engineering is a niche branch with relatively lesser job opportunities. Therefore, my recommendations in order of precedence are ECE, CSE, IT, Mechanical and then Chemical engineering if the student does not have any specific area of interest.

Recently, a report in Times of India claimed that mechanical engineering is the most preferred engineering branch in India rather than Computer science and I can explain you the reason behind that too.
India is striving hard to become a manufacturing economy from current service sector economy with the government initiative of Make in India. It is moving towards manufacturing based rater than the service based economy and that is the reason behind mechanical being the preferred branch.
You can also go for Computer science as it has got no ending career prospects in the top IT firms with good careers prospects ahead.
I will suggest you to either choose mechanical or Computer science and engineering.

We have got average placements for chemical engineering department in VIT, Pune. Highest salary package was Rs 8 lakhs per annum last year (excluding IT companies). Average package is around Rs 4 to Rs 4.5 lakhs per annum. Some of the top notch companies coming for placements are NFL, Loreal, Alfa Laval, Techno force, Pernod Ricard, Praj, Emerson, Honeywell.
Moreover, from this semester onwards final year students are supposed to do a semester long internship in core companies related to their respective branch. The plus point of VIT being, people are getting PPOs (pre placement offers) from the companies they are doing internship in. This solves the problem of placement of those people who don't get placed via campus interviews. Also, once you do the internship, company knows about your performance. So if you perform well in those 6 months, company would directly offer a PPO with a very good package which they may not give to the person freshly giving an interview for the respective position.
Recruitments for these 6 months internships are even better (as compared to placements) for chemical engineering department with an above average stipend!
