Based on the JEE Main rank and percentile you have provided, it may be difficult to get admission to a top engineering college in India. However, there are many other good engineering colleges that your son may consider applying to. Apart from JEE Main your son may also consider other entrance exams like BITSAT VITEEE SRMJEEE etc. These exams are conducted by top engineering colleges and may increase his chances of getting admission to a good college.

With a rank of about 45,000 you cannot get a seat at Vellore campus of Vellore Institute of Technology for any popular branch. VIT VELLORE is the oldest campus and has very high reputation. So Cutoffs are very high here.

Last year cutoff for general branch was just above percentile of 88 whereas you have a percentile of about 62. This perhaps indicates that you are chances of clearing the cutoff are quite low and this intern will debar from entering the process of admission in any of the NIT or equivalent institutes. From your name it appears that you are from Maharashtr
