English is the language of instruction at the School of Visual Arts. SVA requires a sufficient level of proficiency in the English langauge from international students. The minimum English language requirements at SVA vary from programme to program. Below is given the minimum English language requirement for international students.

- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic and Online)
- IELTS One Skill Retake
- PTE Academic
- TOEFL IBT
- Duolingo (except for Hull York Medical School courses)

English Language Proficiency Waiver Policy
The English Language Proficiency exam requirement can be waived if international students meet one of the following criteria:
- If having a score of 650 or higher on the SAT Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing section
- If having a score of 29 or higher on an ACT
- If attend school in the US (excluding US territories) for six or more years and have not been enrolled in an English as a Second Language programme for a minimum of six years.
- Students enrolled in English courses in the IB, AP, or A-Level curricul

Yes, the Universtiy of Bergen offers courses in English language. This makes it highly popular among international students. The university offers 25 academic programs in English and more than 400 courses for exchange students taught in English. However, the University of Bergen does not offer any undergraduate programme taught in English. Applicants with education from outside of Norway must document Norwegian language proficiency in the application process if they wish to study bachelor's programme.
