Last year, highest closing rank at HBTU Kanpur in the asked category was 74105 in Leather Technology. So keeping the last year of trends into consideration, your chances are moderate here.

Hello Sangani,
It's indeed great to know that your son has got 8th rank in SC category. I would advise you to ask him to appear for JEE Advanced. If he repeats his performance there, he can get the most sought after branch of CSE in IIT Mumbai. Why settle for NIT? However to help you I am attaching a link that will predict the college and the branch that your son can get based on his performance in JEE Mains. https://www.shiksha.com/engineering/jee-main-college-predictor
Best wishes to you and your son.

A candidate can give JEE Main exam six times over a period of three consecutive years. In a year, a candidate can appear for JEE Main twice in the months of January and April. If the candidate has passed 12th exam in 2019 then the candidate can appear in 2020 and 2021 JEE Main.

Hello Mulan, you have got the OBC rank of 46000. All seats put together in different NIT's and GFTI's are roughly about 50000 and the percentage of OBC is I think about 27%. So you can imagine how many seeds are available for those under OBC category. However getting a seat is a different dynamics itself. It all depends on how different students fill up their choices. To help you in this I am attaching a link that can predict the branch and the college that you can get based on your performance in JEE Mains. https://www.shiksha.com/engineering/jee-main-college-predictor
Best wishes to you.
