If you belong to the General AI quota, yes 29000 in KCET is considered to be a good rank for BTech admission at CMR University. In 2025, the closing ranks ranged between 36709 and 55398 in General category, therefore candidates with a lower cutoff rank of 29000 are more likely to secure a seat at CMR University for BTech course. However, final admission also depends on minimum eligibility, seat availability in a particular round, etc.

A degree and a diploma both lead to engineering careers, but they serve different goals.Degree (B.Tech/B.E.) is better if you want deeper technical knowledge, higher-paying jobs, campus placements, and future options like M.Tech, MBA, or research roles.Diploma is better if you want to start working early, focus on practical skills, or enter industry as a technician or supervisor. In simple terms:If you want long-term career growth, choose a degree. If you want quick job-oriented training, a diploma works. Both paths can lead to engineering — it depends on your goals.

With a KCET rank of 52,000 for BE Computer Science & Engineering, getting into top Karnataka colleges (like RVCE, PES, BMSCE, MSRIT) is highly unlikely, as these usually require ranks within top 1,000–3,000.

You can consider:

  • Lower-tier NITs/Private colleges in Karnataka

  • State colleges with available CSE seats in later counselling rounds

  • Other branches like ECE, IT, or Mechanical as backup.

Yes, you can still enroll in a college through KCET if you flunked the Kannada language test but only for non-Kannada medium or non-Karnataka candidates.

Here's the simple part — the Kannada language test under KCET is only for Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadiga candidates (that is students who studied outside Karnataka yet claim Kannada origin). If you don't fit these categories, that test doesn't matter to you at all.

If you took that test to gain the Kannada quota seat and failed the test you wouldn't be able to get a seat under Kannada quota, but if your rank and eligibility meet, then you would be able to get a seat under general mer

If you were an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and had attended school in Karnataka from Class 1 to 12, the answer is yes you were eligible to apply for KCET 2018, if you met the domicile and education eligibility requirements determined by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).

The main point to remember is that for KCET, eligibility is primarily based on your academic study in Karnataka and/or your parents' Karnataka citizenship, not quite as much about Indian citizenship. OCI and PIO candidates were considered to be foreign nationals, but if they attended their entire schooling (Class 1-12) in Karnataka, they would typically be

No. The official authority does not release mock tests. Candidates need to refer to third party websites for the mock tests.
